Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers

How old do I have to be to start class?

You have to be at least 15 years old to start the classroom portion of the program.

Do I need a learner's permit to start classes?

No. You can begin the virtual classroom without a Maryland learner’s permit. However, you will need your learner’s permit for the in car lessons.

How do I register for a driver education class?

You can register online via our website or visit the school in person. Select the session that best fits your schedule. Remember you are first registering for the virtual classroom portion of the program. The available dates and times for the driving lessons can be found in your online account.

Do I need to pay in full or can I make payments?

Our program is divided into two parts. The first part is the virtual classroom and the second part is the driving lessons (Behind the Wheel- BTW). This separation allows you pay as needed. The only fee that needs to be paid up front is the virtual classroom portion. The fee for the driving lessons is not required until you have your learner’s permit and are ready to schedule the driving lessons. Each lesson can be paid one at a time or you can pay for both at once. You can also purchase coaching hours if you need to gain the practice hours required by MVA.

Do I need to take a driver education course?

Any new driver, regardless of age, has to take a driver education course from a certified driver education school in Maryland.

What if I need to miss a class?

  • The MVA requires that students attend the first day of the course before they can attend any other classes. After the first day, any missed classes can be made up during later sessions. After you miss the class, call our office to schedule a make-up class.

Please note the MVA does not allow you to miss more than 12 hours of virtual classroom instruction. If you miss more than 12 hours, you will have to start over.

Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What if I miss the first class?

MVA requires students to attend Day 1 of the session. You might be able to attend the first class in another session prior to beginning the rest of the course. Please call 301-298-5216 to find out about other options. We can work with you to fit the classes around your schedule.

When can I schedule my driving lessons?

  • As long as you have your learner’s permit, you can schedule the driving lessons once you have registered for your virtual classroom session. However the first driving lesson cannot happen until after you have attended the first class.

For example, if today is March 1st and your virtual class session begins April 1st, you can schedule now and choose a driving lesson that begins on April 2nd or any date thereafter.

How can I schedule my driving lessons?

  • You can schedule your driving lessons through your online account. Login to your account to upload your learner’s permit to choose 3 driving lessons.

Do you have a refund policy?

  • We want our students and parents to be completely satisfied with our driver education program. If we are unable to resolve your concerns, we will give you a refund.

Is there a wait for driving lessons?

  • Not if you pre-plan your timeline. Driving lessons are usually 4 to 6 weeks from the date that you schedule. The strategy is to schedule your driving lessons as soon as you register for class.

You do not have to wait until you start class to schedule your driving lessons. Again, as soon as you register and are paid in full, login to your account to upload your permit and schedule the 6 hours of driving lessons. If you time it correctly, you could complete the two weeks of classroom and then have your driving lessons immediately following.

If you do not have your permit at the time you register, that is ok. Just be sure to allow 4 to 6 weeks when you do decide to schedule.
